A Backpack and a Fresh Start
Sometimes hope is a backpack filled with school supplies — and a family that knows someone is in their corner.
Every August, families across our community face the same quiet pressure: the cost of getting a child ready for the first day of school. Notebooks, pencils, a backpack that will last the year — small things that add up quickly when a household is already stretched thin.
This year, New Hope Economic Development distributed hundreds of fully stocked backpacks through our annual Back-to-School Drive, made possible by neighbors, local businesses, and volunteers who packed bags late into the evening.
"It is not really about the supplies," one parent told our team. "It is knowing somebody thought about my kid."
Families who received a backpack were also connected to our year-round programs, from tutoring and mentoring to food support and family resources — because the first day of school is a beginning, not an ending.
